Vapor History: Vektroid Releases 4 Essential Albums (August 2nd, 2011)

Back on August 2nd, 2011 legendary artist Vektroid released four albums that would shape the future of the vaporwave movement:

New Dreams Ltd - Initiation Tape, Part 1
fuji grid tv - prism genesis
esc 不在 - Black Horse & MIDI Dungeon

These albums have been re-edited and transformed over the years as Vektroid continued to pioneer new sounds in internet music sphere (despite being overshadowed by the Floral Shoppe drama of the mid 2010s). Our segment does it’s best to parse them out and explain their place in Vapor History!

Initiation Tape Pt. 1 can be found in its original state over on Vapor Memory’s YouTube channel. Vektroid later re-released this album as Isles of Avalon Edition. While Initiation Tape only started off with a TV news tag and some commercials, prism genesis by Fuji Grid TV is a deeper exploration of commercial advertising music, jingles and news broadcasts. The last two albums are under the Vektroid alias esc 不在, stylized as e-s-c and chinese characters that directly translate to absent. These two albums, called Black Horse and MIDI Dungeon were supposed to be part three of the New Dreams Ltd sequence Vektroid was releasing at the time- although that sequence get a bit messy with the remakes, redactions and re-releases. As Vaporwiki summarized:

"These releases were more new-age and high-fidelity in comparison to previous sampling projects by Vektroid (similar to Laserdisc Visions). Some tracks from this alias would appear in a remastered state on the album Initiation Tape: Isle of Avalon Edition."

Take a listen to the originals over on Vapor Memory YouTube Channel and then check out how Vektroid transformed them on her Bandcamp! Listen to the This Week In Vaporwave History segment of Episode 8 if you wanna hear more about these album’s significance..
